ICAPP: Where the future of education and business meet

How to Use the Catalog

Using information derived from a survey of the 35 University System of Georgia colleges and universities, this catalog describes each institution's affiliated centers, institutes, and special programs. Although the Board of Regents has attempted to create a comprehensive description of the System's intellectual capital, certain centers, institutes, or special programs may not appear in this edition. However, we intend to revise and update this document regularly.

Definitions

For the purpose of this catalog, the following definitions apply:

A "center" is typically part of an institution's formal units, provides an organizational base for research in a given area, and may offer education and service. It may also be supported by internal and external funding.

An "institute" shares a center's focus on research and interdisciplinary activity, involvement in continuing education and service to the community, and support from internal and external funding sources. However, an institute is a more formalized structure and may be the equivalent of an autonomous unit within the institution, such as a college or department. Unlike a center, an institute will offer credit courses and may offer degree programs.

A "special program," although not a formal structure of the institution, generally features a concentration of expertise and serves as a resource through which the community or general public may access the institution's intellectual capital or the special services it offers. Unlike a center or institute, a special program is not necessarily characterized by a focus on research or an offering of degree programs.

Organization of the Entries

Each profile contains descriptive information on the respective center, institute, or special program, including the title, contact information, purpose, description, affiliated staff, and funding sources. If the entity maintains a web site, you can access the site by clicking on the entity's name. An entry of "NA" indicates that the information could not be obtained prior to the publication of this first edition of the catalog. "Staff" may reflect full-time and/or part-time faculty, staff, and students affiliated with the center, institute, or program at the time information was reported.

Reproduction of the Entries

For your convenience, this catalog appears in an easily reproduced format. Portions of this catalog may be reprinted or quoted, provided the source of the information is acknowledged.
