Description: The Institute for African American Studies is an academic studies program for students and a cultural repository and resource for Georgia citizens. Through a multidisciplinary approach, the Institute offers many courses in the core curriculum and fosters research and scholarly mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students. Through cooperation of departments in coordinating courses in the area, an undergraduate degree or certificate in African American Studies is offered. In addition to the certificate, the institute sponsors events that support a quality education. Scholars in the Institute oversee publication of "The Langston Hughes Review" and issue "Womanist Theory and Research," a pioneering, acclaimed journal.
